Frequently Asked Questions

No. There is no fee to speak with me or have me review your Medicare insurance options. As an independent Medicare insurance broker, I help you compare available Medicare Advantage, Medicare Supplement, and Part D prescription drug plans. If you enroll through me, I may receive a commission from the insurance company. My goal is to help you understand your coverage and choose a plan that fits your healthcare needs and budget.

Medicare Advantage (Part C) is an alternative way to receive your Medicare Part A and Part B benefits through a private insurance company. Many plans include prescription drug coverage and additional dental, vision, or hearing benefits. Medicare Supplement (Medigap) works with Original Medicare to help pay certain out-of-pocket expenses. Medigap generally doesn't include prescription drug coverage. I can help you compare the differences, including premiums, doctor access, and expected medical costs.

Most people have a seven-month Initial Enrollment Period that begins three months before the month they turn 65, includes their birthday month, and ends three months afterward. Enrolling on time can help prevent coverage gaps and late enrollment penalties. Some people with qualifying employer health insurance may be able to delay Medicare Part B. I can help you understand your Medicare options and enrollment timing.

Yes. I'm an independent Medicare insurance broker based in Grantsville, Utah, and I'm licensed to assist clients in many states. You don't need to live near my office to receive personal service. I offer Medicare insurance consultations by phone and help clients compare available plans in their ZIP codes. You'll work directly with me rather than a large call center. Call or text 435-244-2001, or schedule an appointment at shawnrayinsurance.com/calendar to see how I can help.

Start by checking whether your primary care doctor, specialists, and preferred hospitals participate in the exact Medicare Advantage plan you're considering. Doctor networks can vary between plans, even when they're offered by the same insurance company. I help clients compare available Medicare Advantage plans and check provider networks, prescription coverage, copayments, and other benefits before making an enrollment decision.

Medicare prescription drug coverage is available through standalone Part D plans and most Medicare Advantage plans. Each plan has its own covered drug list, pharmacy network, and medication costs. I can help you review your prescriptions, dosages, and preferred pharmacy to compare available plans and estimate your medication expenses. Checking your prescriptions before enrollment can help prevent unexpected costs.

Original Medicare generally doesn't cover routine dental care, dentures, eyeglasses, or hearing aids, although certain medical exceptions apply. Some Medicare Advantage plans include additional dental, vision, and hearing benefits. Coverage for dentures, crowns, glasses, and hearing aids varies by plan and may have limits. I can help you compare available plans and understand which services are included before you enroll.

Medicare's Annual Enrollment Period runs from October 15 through December 7 each year, with changes generally effective January 1. If you're already enrolled in Medicare Advantage, you can generally make one permitted change during the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period from January 1 through March 31. Certain life events may also qualify you for a Special Enrollment Period. I can help you understand your available options and enrollment deadlines.

Yes. If you're eligible for Medicare but your spouse is under 65, your spouse may qualify for health insurance through the Affordable Care Act (ACA) Marketplace or an employer. Some households may also qualify for Marketplace premium tax credits based on income and other eligibility rules. I help individuals and couples review Medicare and ACA coverage options so both spouses can maintain appropriate health insurance.

You may qualify for a Dual Eligible Special Needs Plan (D-SNP) if you have Medicare Part A and Part B and meet the plan's Medicaid eligibility requirements. Some plans accept certain Medicare Savings Program categories, such as QMB or SLMB, while others require full Medicaid benefits. Depending on the plan and your eligibility, additional benefits may include dental, vision, transportation, or OTC allowances. I can help you review available D-SNP options in your area.
